Ample Notice for Windows Version 1.01
Revised 2/21/96
(c) Copyright 1995 by Mark Harris
All rights reserved.
Installing ANW.
Running SETUP will create an ANW directory containing ANW.EXE,
your appointments file NOTES.APT, the help file ANW.HLP, and
various supplementary files. A program group will be created, and
a small configuration file ANW.INI will be placed in your Windows
directory. You can subsequently make many changes in ANW's
behavior by modifying ANW.INI as described in the help file.
If you run into problems with SETUP, you can install ANW manually.
Here's what SETUP is supposed to do: create a directory c:\anw,
expand and copy the file anw.ex_ to c:\anw\anw.exe, copy
notes.apt, anw.hlp, and all .txt files to c:\anw, and make a short
anw.ini file in your windows directory. In addition, it creates a
program group for most of the above files.
Here's how to do this yourself. We'll assume that the anw disk is in
drive A. Open a DOS session. Enter
md c:\anw
A:
expand -r anw.ex_ c:\anw
copy *.txt c:\anw
copy anw.hlp c:\anw
copy notes.apt c:\anw
Now you can exit DOS (just type EXIT). Use notepad to create in your
windows directory a file ANW.INI with the following lines:
[FILES]
ApptFile=c:\ANW\NOTES.APT
ArchiveFile=c:\ANW\ARCHIVE.APT
Finally, add an ANW icon to your favorite group by choosing File,
New in the program manager, then entering ANW for the description
and c:\anw\anw.exe for the file name.
If you want to uninstall ANW later, just delete your ANW
directory, the ANW.INI file in your Windows directory, and the ANW
program group.
You are licensed to try out the Ample Notice period for a trial
period of 60 days. After that, you must register if you want to
continue to use the software. The file REGISTER.TXT contains a
registration form. If you haven't registered, we'll remind you
once every two months that this is shareware.
Note: Nothing evil will happen after the 60-day trial period --
ANW will continue to function as it did before. You're just using
the software without our approval. Granny's is opposed to
"cripple-ware" which self-destructs after a trial period. But we
do hope you'll register.
Granny's Old-Fashioned Software is a member organization of the
Association of Shareware Professionals and endorses its high
standards for Shareware distribution and support. If you obtained
Ample Notice from a disk catalog or bulletin board, Granny's does
not receive a cent from the amount you paid. We rely on your
registrations to keep going.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The easiest way to keep up-to-date with ANW revisions is to obtain
the latest version by FTP from ftp.acs.appstate.edu in directory
pub/pc/win3/pim. The name will be something like anw101.zip
(where 101 is the current version number). You can also obtain
the latest release from our Web page:
http://www.cs.appstate.edu/u/cs/mh/granny.html
To use new releases, download, unzip and run SETUP. Your old
appointments file will be retained. The downloaded version will
display "Unregistered" on the title bar, but if you're registered,
send us email at mh@cs.appstate.edu we'll send you a code to put
in your ANW.INI file to suppress this behavior. Also, email us if
you'd like to be alerted when ANW is revised.
Fonts in ANW
ANW uses three TrueType fonts by default: Arial, Arial Bold, and
Lucida Bright. If your system doesn't have these fonts and the
default fonts are objectionable, please add a [FONTS] section to
the ANW.INI in your Windows directory with lines such as the
following:
[FONTS] SMALLFONT= Arial,10
HEADINGFONT=Arial, 14
BODYFONT=Times New Roman, 12
CALENDARFONT=Arial, 9
LARGEFONT=Arial, 24
WALLETFONT=Arial, 8
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can obtain the current Ample Notice for Windows disk from
